Some have long dreamed of globalisation, McLuhan wrote about the global village back in the 1960s. There have been euphoric moments when globalisation has been confused with progress, forgetting that both concepts are merely categories of world view and realistically exist only in human heads. Progress, however, has an evaluative tinge. Still, globalisation is a temporary set of trends on which all known theorists argue over nature, putting under the label what one could only dream of. It’s a bit like making a bottle of wine from beakers from all over the world.
As I have already written, globalisation can mean moving the structure of the wealthiest market to the whole world, with advantages and disadvantages. In this sense, it is more like colonising the world by the most potent factor, in the case of my considerations, the American market. This approach causes the most vigorous contradictions to be abolished when moving to colonised elements, the weaker ones, as nothing in the greatest of worlds is to be lost. I invite you to read Piketty’s “Capital”. The psychologically more vulnerable was always fascinated by stronger ones and was keen on taking over from them fashions, tastes, culture.
Being popular in the world of winey criticism, and I would call him the movie director of the winey market, Robert Parker Jr was generated primarily by globalisation as seen by Americans. Those who don’t like Parker accuse him of guilt, which should instead be associated with general trends. Parker himself was able to use such movements brilliantly, which does not mean that he was the Demiurg of all market evil.
In a sense, the globalisation making a profit to American people also englobes the responsibility of that outside of America who earned the most from it. In the case of Bordeaux wines, it is difficult to blame Parker for the fact that French producers increased prices by 500% knowing that the Americans would have liked to pay so much. Earning on a snobbery ends when there is no snobbery among customers. Still, it was also possible to make it modestly, as the Lord God and the morality of a decent man commanded. America colonised the world only because it was in the interests of this world’s greats.
America finally ceased to be interested in globalisation, because having finished other markets, wasn’t able to earn anything, no longer. This can explain the success of modern American isolationists and the sudden return of the snail to the shell. This also explains the fact that Robert Parker Jr was appreciated in Europe, above all in France, because it was France that earned the most because of his activity. But that will be in the next text.
